You may be familiar with Schwinn by their popular spin bike, which we reviewed on our list of best spin bikes. They also make the 470 elliptical, which isn’t your average gym elliptical. It’s less expensive than the premium E1 or E35, but performs well as an at-home, accessible elliptical.
At first glance, the 470 doesn’t look like a full stride elliptical, more like a step up and step down pedal machine. The presence of a flywheel does, in fact, dispel this mentality. The flywheel is also built to handle higher speeds for more intensive workouts.
The 470 also has wheels on its bottom for easier transport. Some cardio machines simply don’t have any means of transport after you initially construct them. Aside from the wheels, it also as a motorized ramp underneath in order to simulate incline.
As with most ellipticals, two sets of handlebars either monitor your heart rate or allow for a full-body workout.
For its affordable price, the 470 comes with a number of perks built into the console. It has nearly 30 programs and settings so that you can customize your workouts however you like them. This gives you a wide range of diversity compared to more expensive ellipticals. In addition to its various programs, the 470 also comes with 25 levels of resistance.
In addition to its various programs, the 470 also comes with 25 levels of resistance. That number of resistance levels rivals the amount commonly seen on cardio machines seen in gyms. It seems ridiculous that the 470 would come equipped with so many programs and levels, but it’s all done with the goal of diversifying your workouts and improving your health long term.
The console itself is more than just a monitor or sound platform. It can also record your workouts (mainly your stats), for your future reference. This feature is critical for your long term goals if you are looking to constantly improve.
The 470 really surprises us as an affordable yet diverse machine. Of course, one’s description of affordable is up to discussion but when compared to more expensive ellipticals, the 470 is not all that different and sometimes superior. We would definitely recommend the 470 to anyone looking to save money and have some freedom with their exercises.
