Benefits of a Fitness Tracker
Fitness trackers are for more than just weight loss. In fact, these devices are excellent for living a more rounded and active lifestyle, even if weight loss isn’t your main goal. No matter which device you choose, you’ll get the same practical benefits: Step and activity tracking. Simply aiming to take a set number of steps per day or making time for a few minutes of activity every day gives you incredible benefits like better cardiovascular health, stress reduction, and more.
Depending on your device, you’ll have additional features like heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and even integrated options to log your nutrition each day. No fitness tracker can do the work for you, but any fitness tracker helps you be more mindful of your body.
We recommend determining which features are most important to you before you buy. Fitness trackers are primarily wrist-based, but there are other types of trackers in forms such as jewelry or clip-on trackers, so knowing what you want is the best way to narrow your search. Some of those functions and features include:
- Heart rate monitoring
- Sleep tracking
- Water resistance
- Specific activity tracking, like yoga, running, or swimming
- GPS (built-in or connected)
And, of course, style is a big factor, so our guide takes into consideration what sorts of styles are appealing to most women. With all that in mind, here are our picks for the best fitness trackers for women.
Top Fitness Trackers For Women
We prefer the style of the Alta, but the Charge 2 has a slight edge in the features department because it has connected GPS (the Alta HR has no such option). These two devices make the top of lists again and again because they are stylish and have excellent features and a fantastic app.
For women, these Fitbits are great because they help you be more focused on your activity levels. For instance, the tracker will remind you to move each hour and provide gentle prompts to help you meet any step goals you’ve set. The Fitbit app offers comprehensive data and gives an overview to see trends regarding your activity and heart rate. And, Fitbit’s sleep tracking is excellent and helps you take control of that super important aspect of your lifestyle.

If you’re willing to spend a little more and wear a watch instead of a traditional fitness tracker style, we also want to add that the new Fitbit Versa smartwatch is an excellent device for women. It has all the goodies found in the other two trackers, but it is also water resistant and has tons more options. If you are a swimmer, the Versa is a perfect fit. And, the recent addition of Female Health Tracking on Fitbit’s smartwatches means that you can take your tracking even further — track periods, ovulation, and even see how your activity or sleep changes at certain points in your cycle. The Versa is a definitely a tracker that women should consider! Check out our full review of the Versa here.
Like Fitbit, Garmin makes some awesome fitness trackers, sports watches, and smartwatches (see all of them here), but our pick for this list is the Vivosmart 3 thanks to its price, style, and features. It’s a fairly simple fitness tracker, but the activity tracking and wellness monitoring (including stress tracking) makes it a highly functional tracker for women on the go.
The style isn’t anything flashy (and is in fact kind of boring), but that does have its own kind of appeal if you’re looking for something that doesn’t scream “fitness tracker.” The screen isn’t an always-on style, so overall it’s quite low profile.
Garmin excels in a lot of its trackers because it’s so comprehensive in what it can track. The Vivosmart 3, for instance, tracks reps — something not many trackers do and certainly not at this price point. It also tracks steps, floors climbed, calories burned, intensity minutes, and sleep, and is water resistant for swimming and showering. Amazfit’s products are known for having useful features and being offered at a highly affordable price (the Amazfit Bip is a bestselling smartwatch that’s under $100!). The Moonbeam is no exception, and it has a unique design that looks nothing like a traditional fitness tracker. It may not do quite as much as some other fitness trackers, but women looking for a device that gives them the basics and has a design that goes from day to night seamlessly.
The Moonbeam provides basic tracking functions: Steps, distance traveled, running and calories burned. It also records sleep data, so you can see how long and how well you slept.
It is also water resistant, and it’s made from hypoallergenic and durable materials. That means you can wear it all the time with no worries. Additionally, the Moonbeam connects to your phone to give you subtle alerts for calls and alarms.
Bellabeat is best known for creating products for women, by women. The Leaf is their most popular product. It’s a beautiful and stylish tracker that looks nothing like a fitness tracker. It can be worn as a necklace, bracelet, or clip, and it comes in a variety of metal and wood options.
The Leaf will track steps, distance, calories burned, and sleep. It also tracks reproductive health and stress. The leaf has inactivity alarms and wake-up alarms which are gentle vibrations. You can connect the app to Android or iOS and integrate it into Apple Health or Google Fit. It is splashproof, but not water resistant.
This tracker is especially notable because it is one of the few jewelry trackers that have lasted and that provide good data. You can read our full hands-on review in this article.

Misfit is another affordable brand that provides trackers with a unique flair yet minimalist design. The Ray and Shine 2 trackers are two different options from the brand, both of which have a distinctly un-fitness-tracker look.
These offer basic tracking functions as well, including steps, distance traveled, calories, and sleep. Water resistant and equpped with reminders, this is another simplistic tracker that’s perfect for keeping up on your day to day activity and movement. The battery will last up to six months.
