Mio Slice Heart Rate Activity Tracker 2017 Review: How Strong Your Heart is

By Cindy Leave a Comment

A new fitness tracker has hit the market, one that could revolutionize the way we monitor our health and fitness forever. Created by Mio, the Slice fitness tracker does something unheard of: it uses heart rate, instead of steps, to track daily and weekly progress. All for under $130.

Mio Slice Heart Rate Activity Tracker

I know, it sounds wrong, but trust me, and them, it is the smart way get fit. Tracking exertion levels using Mio’s PAI metric (which I’ll explain in a moment), can achieve better health, increased life expectancy, and more, as you’ll see with my review of Mio’s Slice Fitness Tracker. I’ll break down how it works and what it can do for you, so you can see for yourself why this might be the perfect tracker for you.

What is the Mio Slice Heart-Rate-Monitors?

Mio Slice Checking Heart Rate Score

Mio’s Slice Fitness tracker, like many other trackers, monitors calories, distance, and sleep. It also alerts you to call and text notifications, so you are connected when you need to be. Oh, and it has a cute, sporty look, with a polymer band that comes in black, navy, stone and sienna.

The main difference, is that instead of counting steps, it measures heart rate to determine how hard you work out and gives you a PAI score, which reflects not just exertion, but cardiovascular and overall heath as well. In other words, it doesn’t just track, or count. Instead, it gives you a comprehensive overview of your fitness levels, and all you have to do is wear it.

Mio’s Slice Fitness Tracker: What is the PAI Metric & What it Means for You

Mio Slice Heart Rate MonitorOkay, so now let’s look at the most important aspect of this new tracker: its patented PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) metric. PAI is a concept derived from the Hunt Study, a large health study that was done in Norway and found a correlation between activity levels and overall health and life spans.

According to the study, having a PAI score of 100 or more can increase life expectancy by 10 years and stave off many diseases, in addition to promoting weight loss. Ulrik Wisløff, professor at the faculty of medicine, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, explained it best: “PAI is the most relevant index for measuring whether your activity level is sufficient to achieve maximum health benefits.”

PAI is determined over a 7-day period, based on age, gender, resting heart rate and maximum heart rate. The more you exercise, or do any activity, the higher your score will go, so it motivates you to keep moving. This formula works for several reasons, especially when compared to traditional trackers. Here’s why:

Mio SLICE activity tracker during spinning
• Increased accuracy: By using heart rate, instead of steps, you can see, with glaring accuracy, just how active, or inactive, you really are. PAI measures how hard your body works, as opposed to simply counting how many steps you take. This can help you

• Increased Activity: Using a 7-day period to analyze exertion levels is a smarter way to keep users moving and exercising than counting steps. Since how hard you exercise matters, users are more likely to perform more challenging activities and exercise every day.

• Improved Performance: Here is one of the biggest benefits to this new tracker, its ability to improve how you exercise. Contrary to what you, and I, have been told, counting steps has its limitations. Yes, hitting a set number of steps each day does make you move more and encourages activity.

However, it doesn’t require you to walk, jog, or run hard, to achieve it. You can take a leisurely stroll, or a walk around your neighborhood, without ever increasing heart rate. Which means you may not be maximizing your routine, or increasing your metabolism enough to see results.

Heart rate, and by extension, your PAI, reflects how strenuously you performed an activity. Using this metric motivates you to try new challenges and work out to your maximum potential.

As you can see from my review of Mio’s Slice Fitness Tracker, this device is unlike anything you’ve seen before. With its ingenious way of tracking, and affordable price tag, it is sure to be a hit with consumers. It really puts an emphasis on health, not just weight loss, and is stunningly accurate. Available online for under $130, it is worth trying.
