Garmin’s new smartwatches are here, and they are both pretty fantastic. Which one will you choose?
Garmin’s new smartwatch offerings, the Vivoactive 3 and the Vivomove HR each boast some impressive technology and specs. There are some key differences between them, however, so choosing the one that fits your lifestyle and goals should be fairly simple. To help you figure that out, we’ve put the two head to head. Let’s take a look at the Vivoactive 3 versus the Vivomove HR.
The first thing to note about these two devices is the differences in style. The hybrid smartwatch Vivomove HR is designed to be fashionable and not look like a smart watch, just like a regular analog watch. The touchscreen enables the discreet display. It comes in four different styles and has a really pleasing face design. This watch will definitely appeal to those who want something they can wear all the time without it being obvious that they are wearing a smartwatch.
The Vivoactive 3 also has a really nice design, especially in comparison to the previous versions of the Garmin watch. It is sportier looking that the Vivomove HR and comes in three color options. The face is that of a smartwatch, meaning you can customize the look of it but it will always look like a smartwatch. This does mean that it’s easier to see the notifications and other information on the Vivoactive 3, however. It can sometimes be hard to see the display on the Vivomove.
One of the other big differences – and probably a deal breaker for some – is GPS capability. The Viovactive 3 has it and the Vivomove HR does not. This also means that the Vivoactive has some additional fitness tracking features that require GPS, so it has more tracking capability overall.
The Vivoactive 3 has several extra features that the Vivomove lacks. One of these is Garmin Pay, Garmin’s new mobile payment option which lets you pay on the go without your wallet. This feature is a key addition for the Vivoactive 3 – both the new Fitbit Ionic smartwatch and the Apple Watch have built in NFC, so any smartwatch that wants to run with the big dogs has to include it.
The Vivoactive 3 also includes more running and swimming features than the Vivomove HR. Both devices are water resistant and both track steps, stairs, and reps, but the Vivoactive 3 has more to help you track and improve other activities.
Both the Vivoactive 3 and the Vivomove HR offer some huge advancements from previous Garmin fitness trackers. Both are stylish and worthwhile. The Vivomove HR is about $100 less than the Vivoactive 3 (unless you get the “Premium” style) but lacks some useful features like mobile pay and GPS. However, either one will get you great fitness tracking, heart rate monitoring, and water resistance so you can swim or shower in it. Your decision will probably come down to budget, style, and whether you need those extra features on the Vivoactive 3. Either way, you’ll have a great smartwatch.
